Clear Channel NY utilizes m!ka arms
Once headquarters of AT&T, a historic building on Sixth Avenue, is again a focal point of media technology! It has become the new home of Clear Channel’s New York FM operations.
Josh Hadden, director of engineering and IT for Clear Channel’s New York operations: “AT&T was chosen because it was in Manhattan and convenient to almost all the subway lines and mass transit gateways in New York City”. The building was the point of origin for the first transatlantic cable, and the end points of the first around-the-world phone call in 1935.
The Clear Channel complex consists of 29 studios. There are two identical air studios for each of the five FM stations: WAXQ, WLTW, WHTZ, WKTU and WWPR. Key suppliers of studio equipment for the project included SAS for mixing consoles and routers, Omnirax for custom studio furniture and Telos for phone systems.
David Holland, a designer for Omnirax: “Josh wanted something innovative and sexy. We envisioned a modular design based on a futuristic mother ship with up to three guest pods. The whole thing looks like it is floating.” m!ka microphone and monitor arms have become part of the implementation.
Josh Hadden: “I chose m!ka microphone arms because I wanted something sleek looking and without visible springs, and also with an integrated monitor arm, and the Yellowtec product fit the bill. It definitely adds the needed ’look’ to make the place look like some space age studio - and the aluminium finish matches my SAS Rubicon consoles nicely as well!”
BGS based in Florida supplied the new m!ka Microphone Arms #YT3305 with on air signalling and extended length and Monitor Arms #YT3230.
